The end of the year is winding down and students are asked to ensure that all library books and text books are returned to school next week. Failure to do so will indicate a report card will not be passed out at the end of the year. In addition, students are required to bring a plastic bag to school each day as they will be bringing home notebooks, exerice books, projects and left over material that has been in the class for the course of the year.
I look forward to seeing you at the Grade 5 Graduation ceremony which will take place on Wednesday, June 22 at 7:00 pm.
Kind Regards,
Kimberly Leiske

Students are well underway in their PYP Exhibition research inquiry. At this point, students are organizing details for their visual poster and working on their essay outline. We will be working on the essay throughout the week with revision and proofreading whenever possible.
Our PYP Exhibtion dates will take place in the classroom on Thursday, May 26 between 12:45-2:00 and Friday, May 27 from 7:45-12:15. Parents, family members, students and the community are invited to view and take part in the student's PYP inquries. We hope to see you there!
Many of the students have created an electonric survey in order to find out what the community knows about their inquriy. This information is extrememly helpful for the PYP-X and will provide the students with ideas for their action. Please participate in the surveys below:

Thank you to parents who attended Monday’s performance celebration of “How We Express Ourselves”. The students had a wonderful time brainstorming and working collaboratively on their poetry presentations and Arabic play. The students equally enjoyed providing an assessment for parents following the performance.
We are well underway on our fourth planner of the year, “Where We are In Time and Place”. Throughout this planner, students are inquiring on geographical terms and functions such as longitude, latitude, maps, globes, scales and direction. Students will be taking part in a variety of hands on approaches as they become more familiar with these ideas. Please read the latest newsletter for planner that is attached on the side bar on the left.
Our PYP Exhibition is quickly approaching. There will be a very important meeting for parent mentors this Wednesday, March 30 at 1:30 in the Imad Taher located in the High School building. This meeting will prepare parent mentors for their upcoming role during the Exhibition and will address any question or concerns that you may have.
Student-led portfolio conferences will take place on Friday, April 1st throughout the day. Students are organizing their work and preparing to lead this conference in which they will identify their strengths through evidence of their work as well as areas of improvement. I look forward to sharing this experience with you and your child at this time.
Please contact me if you have any concerns or questions.
Thank you for your ongoing support,

Firstly, I would like to thank each and everyone of you for your beautiful gifts and acknowlegements during Teacher's Day this week. It was the first Teacher's Day that I have participated in and will never forget. (I would love to bring the tradition back to Canada eventually). Thank you for the great memories.
We are concluding our planner "How We Express Ourselves" this week with a celebration on Monday, March 21 at 12:45-1:45 pm. Students will be sharing and presenting their work in both Arabic and English. Parents are welcome to attend. If you plan to attend, please leave a note in your child's agenda so we have an idea of the amount of people and space in the classroom.
There will be a PYP meeting for exhibition mentors in mid-March. If you have already signed up to be a mentor, or have not and would like to, it is very important to that you attend the meeting. You will have a better understanding of your role throughout the journey of the PYP Exhibition. Please stay tuned for the official date and time.
Our upcoming planner is tittled "Where We are in Time and Place". Students will increase their geographical and mapping skills as well as be introduced to various biomes and climatic areas. After this planner, it is time for the exhibition. Yes, time does pass quickly.
In Math, we have began multiplying decimals. Students are learning to understand the relationship between decimals and whole numbers by identifying number patterns and using manipulitives to solve problems. This is a unit in which students will need to grasp as much practice as possible. The student text book can be used at home on a daily basis; this will be found in Chapter 10.
This week Ramzi and Sandra on in charge of the morning announcements.
Thank you again for your ongoing support. If you have any further questions, please do not hestitate to contact me at school.
